Night.fm
- nickthemagicman 6y agoWell I breached the security protocol. Am I going to jail?
- meddlin 6y agoRight to jail...
- utahcon 6y agoIt's actually to the left.
- elwell 6y agoIf someone hooked it up to trigger some final command on a server they were hacking... well it wouldn't sound good in court when the prosecutor says "You clicked the 'Breach Protocol' button, and you gonna tell us you didn't know what you were doing?!"
- wavefunction 6y agoI would just explain that I play Cyberpunk 2077 which is set in Night City and that "Breach Protocol" is a minigame inside the main game and that my assumption was that I was going to listen to some cyberpunk music given the .fm tld and by this point everyone from the investigating detectives to the assistant DA and presiding judge would be rolling their eyes and judging me to be some very silly person not worth prosecuting. I hope!
- chess_buster 6y agoAnzeige ist raus.
- kjakm 6y agoIt gets stuck on "Loading" for me in Safari (and Chrome).
- duxup 6y agoWorked on Firefox 84.0.2... well until it got to 'loading player'... then stopped.
- grgbrn 6y agoAlso Firefox. I wonder which browsers work?
- nickthemagicman 6y agoNot working on Chrome for me. Maybe Vivaldi?
- 88840-8855 6y agoTried it in Vivaldi, also no luck.
- kaeruct 6y agoMine gets stuck loading but outputs this in the console >getting new tracks... >Array [] >couldn't get tracks: Request failed with status code 504
- zffr 6y agoSame. Seems like it's stuck making a request to 'https://night.fm/api/ https://night.fm/api/'. Possibly facing the hacker news hug of death
- acdanger 6y ago504 errors in the console, looks like HN huge o' death.
- cmeacham98 6y agoServer is returning a 504 on /api/ which their JS doesn't expect and gets stuck forever.
- uncomputation 6y agoReminds me a lot of poolside.fm, I hope it’s by the same guy
- pram 6y agoPoolside is extremely cool, especially the desktop clients styled like classic MacOS
- mxuribe 6y agoAccording to the maker's main website [https://circuit.dev/ https://circuit.dev/], it appears to be a "cyberpunk-themed radio station"...though for me, it stays at "LOADING PLAYER"...so maybe the site/app is getting overwhelmed with traffic? I'll come back to it later. I did like that hacker-y intro screen; very neat!
- offtop5 6y agoIs hacker News the new load testing. Instead of having to whip your up own j meter instance you just post a link here and see what happens .
- mxuribe 6y agoYou mean like LoTaaS (load testing as a service)? ;-) (I totally made that up, and have no idea if that is even a real thing.)
- offtop5 6y agoIt's real https://loader.io/ https://loader.io/
- doublerabbit 6y agoHandy. My application melts strong, my web-server does not. Now I get why reverse-proxying is a thing.
- jtbayly 6y agoOf course it's real, and most DDOS-as-a-service providers claim that they are offering load testing as a service.
- open-paren 6y agoI think this is the first time I've seen Svelte in the wild (outside of NYT)
- cmeacham98 6y agoImage that shows what it would work like if the server wasn't down (looted from a meta tag): https://i.imgur.com/kJIGRF5.png https://i.imgur.com/kJIGRF5.png
- linschn 6y agoOff topic but what a mess imgur has become! It's an image sharing site, yet the image is the last thing that loads. After 20 seconds I closed the tab, I'm on a mobile connection in a fast train and the image was not loaded after that time. The social media badges were though.
- tubs 6y agoIf one uses i. it is less bad: https://i.imgur.com/kJIGRF5.png https://i.imgur.com/kJIGRF5.png
- BugsJustFindMe 6y agoThose "i" links are only less bad if you're not on mobile. Imgur detects mobile browsers and redirects away from "i" links back to spam-heavy ones so they can push their app.
- tubs 6y agoHah, that's amazing (in a terrible, terrible way).
- jedberg 6y agoThat's what happens when you take millions in VC money. They want you to generate a return.
- duxup 6y agoI feel like for this to be on the front page we should maybe know what this page ... does.
- miloignis 6y agoI'd love to have this load and listen in, but while you're waiting you might be able to get your fix from https://nightride.fm https://nightride.fm which I found a while back.
- delgaudm 6y agoOooh. Thanks for this! Now enjoying the Recktory channel.
- mr-wendel 6y agoEager to check it out when it's able to breath again! In the mean time, I can't recommend https://nightride.fm/ https://nightride.fm/ enough. Fun retro/synth UI, great stations, and a MilkDrop visualizer for whatever you've got playing. When they do shows with artists and producers those are blast to listen in on.
- JimiofEden 6y agoThanks for sharing this. I've been hunting around for a good synthwave radio, and this hits all the right points. I'm eager to try out OP's link when the server can handle again, but the experience on nightride fm is REALLY, really cool.
- mxuribe 6y ago> ...I've been hunting around for a good synthwave radio... I've just been using the many synthwave playlists/mixes that exist on youtube. And, it has not been bad. But, now thinking about it, yeah, a web radio station would be nice! I'll revisit night.fm once they're under less of a load.
- jedberg 6y agoI'm listening now and this is actually making me anxious. The music is the kind you'd hear in 80s movie montages right before something important is going to happen. I'm now anxiously waiting to find out what major plot point happens next.
- revicon 6y agoNightride is a great one, listening now! https://somafm.com/ https://somafm.com/ is another excellent music stream, Groove Salad is my favorite.
- joshspankit 6y agoThis would be a great use-case for webtorrent or something.
- jerrygoyal 6y agowhile coding I usually listen to this 24x7 radio https://synthwave.hu https://synthwave.hu another one is https://retrowave.ru https://retrowave.ru
- zelag 6y agoDid you perhaps mean synthwave.hu? The first link is dead.
- jerrygoyal 6y agoUpdated. Thanks!
- hairofadog 6y agoLooks cool and I'll be interested in checking this out when it's up again. The interface and vibe remind me that people have posted links here about listening to the International Space Station; I would love an internet radio station that was sort of like a police scanner, but more like astronauts or aquanauts talking to each other – calm human voices far away, with that sort of static two-way-radio vibe, more science and less carnage. I could listen to that all night long.
- ThinkingGuy 6y agoNASA TV is available for free over the Internet. I can attest to its relaxing effect when they're covering a live mission, having fallen asleep listening to the spacewalk to repair the Hubble https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html
- hairofadog 6y agowoo thank you
- moretta 6y agoIt's not recent clips, but SomaFM has a station "Mission Control" that plays archives from the space program over some ambient music. https://somafm.com/missioncontrol/ https://somafm.com/missioncontrol/
- deleted 6y ago[deleted]
- thelandofrandom 6y agoLove this site. The servers are getting overloaded right now acc. To the Discord. That's why it's so slow.
- na85 6y agoAlso: http://cyberadio.pw http://cyberadio.pw
- utf_8x 6y agoAaaand... it's down...
- BenFeldman1930 6y agoMy recommendation is https://somafm.com/ https://somafm.com/, with approx. 30 channels. My favourite is Secret Agent. There are also some CLI apps, e.g.: https://github.com/uschek/somafm https://github.com/uschek/somafm.
- revicon 6y agoThis makes me miss Turntable.fm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turntable.fm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turntable.fm
