MIT professor facing federal charges for failing to disclose his work for China
- addicted 6y agoThis is messed up
- ratsmack 6y agoThis is not the first time this has happened with someone associated with China. Are we finding this stuff now just because China is in focus? How many more people from other countries are involved with a situation like this? It seems that our oversight is lacking from complacency rot.
- underseacables 6y agoNot complacency, acquiescence. American leaders have ignored Chinese human rights violations, spying, theft, and corruption in pursuit of money for a very long time.
- powerapple 6y agoThe 1k talent program has been very much publicised by Chinese government to attract talents from around the world to improve science and technology in China. In the last a few years, it was targeted together with Xi's plan to gain lead position in hi-tech manufacturing by 2025, both has gone stealth now. So yes, the program was public and information was available online.
- perennate 6y agoFrom the affidavit: https://d279m997dpfwgl.cloudfront.net/wp/2021/01/Gang-Chen-Documents.pdf https://d279m997dpfwgl.cloudfront.net/wp/2021/01/Gang-Chen-D... > In one communication, CHEN instructed the colleague to remove any information identifying him (CHEN) as a PRC Talent Plan participant from documents concerning the proposed thermal energy project. Most of the evidence is about activities he "failed to disclose", but this evidence supports the more serious allegation that he willfully acted to hide certain activities.
- underseacables 6y agoChina and the Politburo have permeated all segments of American life. From NASA to MIT, and the placement has not been shown to be beneficial to America. Quite the contrary.
- selfishgene 6y agoWonder if the news of Chen's arrest is "heartbreaking" to MIT president Rafael Reif: https://www.wbur.org/commonhealth/2019/06/27/mit-president-chinese-scientists-heartbreaking https://www.wbur.org/commonhealth/2019/06/27/mit-president-c... Apparently when he's not busy providing reputation laundering for members of organized crime like Jeffrey Epstein, Reif is running a "sanctuary university" for Chinese spies like Chen. MIT profits from turning a blind eye to their scientists' ties to Chinese Communist Politburo, much like they turned a blind eye to Epstein's sexual abuse of 12 year-old girls, that in this case enabled a scientist like Gang Chen to take away $20 million in federal research grants from more deserving Americans ... so they should be held accountable too.
