Deplatforming Might Be Useless When It Comes to Preventing Violence
- Nextgrid 6y agoCan we maybe talk about the root cause of this problem, aka an unhealthy business model that incentivizes platforms to pit people against each other and promote divisive content to generate "engagement"? None of this would've happened had people not been radicalized by being fed endless crap in their feeds for years when all they initially came there for was to socialize with friends & family. The worst is that the scummy platforms are trying to save face and virtue-signal by "deplatforming" the content they turned a blind eye to for years and made billions off (while plenty of equally-bad content is most likely being left alone, simply because that problem hasn't yet escalated to this stage and they can still profit off it until it does).
