Yesterday, Andre Conte https://twitter.com/AndreBConte https://twitter.com/AndreBConte, a well-known Panamanian human rights activist was taken by the Panamanian police to face accusations of stealing data from government servers. More details here: https://www.prensa.com/impresa/panorama/fiscalia-pide-una-audiencia-para-imputar-a-andre-conte/ https://www.prensa.com/impresa/panorama/fiscalia-pide-una-au... . Given Conte's vocal human rights advocacy activities, criticisms of the government, given the Panama's long track record of impunity regarding to human rights violations (most recently the violent treatment of protestors), it is suspected by many that this is a move by the Government to abuse the courts in order to silence and intimidate its critics. This case has little precedent in Panama, and the ineptitude of the court systems to handle cases regarding information security came to light recently with the failed attempt to convict an ex-president (Ricardo Martinelli) for wiretapping. Are there international organizations that could help in this case? For example, helping to determine the validity of the evidence presented by the government, etc.
