Parler’s New Serverless Architecture
- julienreszka 6y ago> to be frank, I’d be extremely cautious to work with anyone who raised such a concern as a serious consideration in the first place. He seems to say that vendor lock-in isn't worth having concerns about. Did I understand this correctly?
- viraptor 6y agoThe concern he references there is in the previous paragraph: “every cloud provider decided we were too objectionable to host”. In other words, if "what if everyone refuses to deal with us on a mix of moral and legal grounds" is a realistic risk for your company, maybe you don't want to be there.
- bmarquez 6y agoThis appears to be a consulting group's website selling AWS cost reduction strategies and AWS analysis; they have a vested interest in saying that. I clicked on the link expecting some sort of content on migration, but it's basically saying 'stick with the cloud unless you're a bad company'
- julienreszka 6y agoYes I think you're right. Very dishonest marketing.
- mtmail 6y ago> (Full credit to Alice Goldfuss for the absolutely incredible title.) As far as I see the article doesn't describe Parler's architecture old or new, or has any knowledge what Parler will do in the future. Update: 19h ago the title was submitted as "Parler's Serverless Architecture: What It Would Take to Relaunch". Now it seems like the title was changed to attract clicks.
- viraptor 6y ago> or has any knowledge what Parler will do in the future. We don't have to know that to analyse options they have. Which are pretty much: dodgy hosting which doesn't care what you do (and building part of infrastructure yourself); trying to self host and risk getting banned from colo; (not mentioned in the article) full tor migration and hiding what you host from the provider.
- smt88 6y agoFlagged for false/clickbait headline. This essentially has nothing to do with Parler.
