I don't care if he's smart or dumb, it's a hard thing to establish any consensus on. I've met plenty of people who are brilliant at a few things but absolutely terrible at most other things. Are they then smart or dumb? You tell me.
What does matter is that he started an illegal war and lied to other nations to get them to join in on it, including the one where I live. That's why W. is still a worse president than Trump.
Edit: people seem to think this is an endorsement of Trump, it is absolutely not. Trump is a dangerous madman who will do anything to stay in power, but so far the damage has been limited. W. caused the death of millions with his illegal war, in that he is the worse president.

- FriedrichN 6y agoOf course he tried, he will do anything. But he failed and he did not start a war that ended up killing millions directly and indirectly. Please don't assume I'm defending Trump here, in spirit he's the worse president, but in effect W. was worse.
- simonh 6y agoWould you genuinely have preferred to have Trump in charge of the country's response to 9/11 and the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan at that time? I wouldn't. W was a weak president, but honestly Trump has given me a new appreciation for his finer points.
- FriedrichN 6y agoAbsolutely not. Trump would have made a terrible mess, even worse than W. did. My point is more than the US can recover from this, recovery from Iraq was and is much harder. The dead will never come back to life and the region seems to be permanently unstable. My comparison was between a potential criminal who could have committed great crimes to one who actually did.
- simonh 6y agoI'm not saying you're wrong, but it was a tough situation. The US was out for blood after 9/11, and there were no good answers to the question of what to do about Saddam (I know, they were two different issues). That doesn't excuse screwing it up, in some ways that were absolutely avoidable. I think it was more a competency issue than a malice issue though. Competency with Bush, malice and competency with Rumsfeld.
