- alwillis 6y agoNope—bitcoin is generally using excess energy or energy that would usually go to waste. Putting a data center next to a damn doesn't increase greenhouse gases. Bitcoin mining and the oil and gas industry are partnering for miners to use the energy that would normally be lost to flaring [1].
