Decentralised Content Moderation
- sthnblllII 6y agoHere's a tldr; >spammers, neo-nazis, and child pornographers (or any other type of content that you consider despicable) >Wikipedia editors are predominantly white, male >it may be appropriate to take into account the power relationships between the people involved, and hold the privileged and powerful to a higher standard than the oppressed and disadvantaged, since otherwise the system may end up reinforcing existing imbalances
- rkangel 6y agoThat's an interesting take home from the article. What I got from it was "We can create distributed social networks that are censorship resistant (this is a problem with technical solutions), but that isn't necessarily a good idea. Some form of decentralised moderation process is also needed (which is both a social and technical problem)."
- rkangel 6y agoThe author is a researcher on distributed systems. I found this video from him to be an excellent first education on CRDTs, how they work, what they're good for and what they aren't (yet) good for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7drE24geUw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7drE24geUw
