I believe a lot of the things that got cancelled due to covid-19 didn't really need to be. There is somewhat of a cult centered around shutting everything down without any sense of nuance. Not enough respect has been given to the ability of people to decide for themselves what is in their best interests.

If absolutely everything was shut down there'd be a certain (warped) sense of fairness at least. In my town the swimming pool in my condo complex was shut down when COVID-19 began and never reopened. I was the only one who ever used it. They could've just made it maximum capacity 2 or something. Meanwhile, the bar down the street was left open until it became a superspreader event. Anecdotally, I think we've all seen the idiocy and inconsistency at all levels of government which adds to the cynicism and apathy.
