Why should I be an enthusiast? Indeed I wait for a much faster laptop to replace my venerable Dell XPS15 9550 for software development. But my mom also deserves a fast laptop for web browsing and emailing.
It's funny how they try to segment the market because they can't deliver the same power to everyone. Yet we all deserve it.
Why should I even bother selecting a CPU option? Give me the best of the moment.

You may feel that you deserve the sun and the moon, but getting Intel to agree with you on that will be harder than getting blood out of a stone. If you pay for it, you can have the best processor. Otherwise, you'll be getting something less.
- beojan 6y agoBecause web browsing isn't (or at least, shouldn't be) CPU bound. If you're just browsing the web you want light and cool with long battery life.
- ben-schaaf 6y agoYields and binning are a good thing. They allow price sensitive customers to get more value and price insensitive customers to get more performance.
- R0b0t1 6y agoI find the word enthusiast problematic for different reasons. Enthusiast means non-professional tricked into spending way too much money. I intentionally avoid most things labelled enthusiast, it's a money pit because Intel wants your money.
- AmVess 6y agoOne of Intel's biggest scams is having top end mobile CPU's that actually perform worse than cheaper parts because they hit maximum TDP quickly and then throttle themselves into a giant state of anemia.
