back in mid-90s i did a contract job for a field office of the FBI. they had a policy that we were required to remove our ID badges when we left the building (to go to lunch or whatever). the building itself was also devoid of any signs that indicated this contained an FBI office. interestingly enough, a few months later, i was contracted for another job at a different FBI field office. that one had a sign out front and seemed surprised when i asked if i needed to remove my badge before leaving the building.
