Trump’s gone quiet, Parler nuked, Twitter protest never happened
- new_guy 6y agoFull title: Trump’s gone quiet, Parler nuked, Twitter protest never happened: There's an eerie calm – but at what cost?
- lupinglade 6y agoTrump is quiet because he is busy preparing to leave office and for the onslaught of lawsuits that will come with it. He doesn’t care about his supporters or the country.
- loraa 6y agoSweet, we can get back to antifa burning down businesses.
- Fjolsvith 6y agoClassic Sun Tzu.
- coffeeboy27 6y agoThe very last line of this article proposes the solution of new laws and regulations that govern online platforms. Is that what we really want? I'm genuinely asking because I can see both sides of the argument quite clearly and still feel uneasy thinking that this topic is so black and white.
- cbradford 6y agoYes. This is no different from the civil rights movement when we as a society asked, "is it right that a restaurant can refuse service to people they do not like?". In the end we decided no you cannot discriminate. Same thing needed here.
- JohnTHaller 6y agoYou're unironically comparing someone losing a social media account for inciting violence to Blacks being refused service for their race?
- krapp 6y agoI've seen people here unironically compare it to the Night of Long Knives. There are no depths they won't sink to.
- samizdis 6y agoA thoughtful article, and sobering in its tone - given that The Register is often flippant where flippancy is due. The focused and sombre writing here speaks volumes. To me, this stood out: This leap between diametrically opposed positions in just a few short days has sounded its own warning alarm. It has exposed the extraordinary power that Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon possess, and the fact that that power lies in the hands of a very small number of execs guided by no more than their current state of mind.
