For a short while, it was super trivial and cheap to fix smartphones. Lots of little shops would have spare or alternative parts for popular models. Today, it's extremely hard and expensive to do so. We're at the point where repairs are an expected part of a phones lifecycle. Battery replacements are basically required now unless you want to buy a new phone every year or two. We really should start adding info about that to packaging.
