Moderna is developing 3 new mRNA vaccines for seasonal flu, HIV and Nipah virus
- atonse 6y agoThis sounds incredible and I really hope mRNA doesn't end up being the Graphene of this decade (the fact that it's already used in the biggest "mass market" product imaginable suggests it won't be). My question for people that know more about this stuff – do we need to tweak our regulatory framework for therapeutics like this one that are extremely laser focused? When you are literally targeting a specific RNA code, the chances of side effects should be pretty minimal in general, correct? Or is the fact that all this kind of immunotherapy still too new, require the same amount of oversight?
- pmdulaney 6y agoDo you mean that graphene has been over-hyped? Or that it hasn't lived up to its initial promise?
- pmdulaney 6y ago"Nipah virus is a highly lethal illness that can cause respiratory and neurological symptoms, and which is particularly a threat in India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Singapore." I'm a conservative who generally dislikes the way the Left approaches the idea of social justice, but I do get the feeling that this nipah virus, which I've never heard of before now, would have gotten more attention if it were ravaging Europe or North America.
