Domestic Terrorism is still Terrorism. Should be dealt with as such
- nomad1 6y agoConsidering that these people genuinely thought the election was rigged, I am surprised the protest didn't degenerate into something worse, given the level of violence in protests seen last year for other concerns. With no court hearing the evidence, and then a mass culling of their voices on social media, and given all the 'evidence' they saw in the hearings, the pressure can only build, I remember seeing a Reuters poll saying that 40% of the voting population thought the election was rigged, IIRC this was double last time. I think the votes need to be checked, just in case the election was rigged. The risk that there was no rigging is that we can prove Trumpers completely wrong. The risk that there was rigging is that the republic might be dead. At the very least it will act as a safety valve.
- ChrisLomont 6y ago>With no court hearing the evidence, 60+ courts heard the "evidence," which was in each case lacking, or in more cases, no evidence was given because the actual court cases were not about what Trump and co were claiming in the news. >I remember seeing a Reuters poll saying that 40% of the voting population thought the election was rigged You must be confused; Reuters ran this poll [1], where nearly 80% of Americans say Biden won the White House, incuding more than half of Republicans. You must be thinking of the 40% of Republican voters (about 20% of voters, hence the 80% above) who thought the election was rigged, after hearing Trump claim this for months before and after the election, in every forum he could, and the right wing media fed those voters a months long diet of such nonsense. Of course those voters would believe that. >I think the votes need to be checked, just in case the election was rigged. They have been, they will be inspected even more, and they will find the same results. Who voted is public record in nearly every state, and those where it's not public make records available to researchers. The way to show fraud is statistical sampling, which Trump and co did, and found nothing, hence the ignorance feeding smoke and mirrors game. How do you know Trump and co looked at voter records? Because right after the election they started floating a handful of names of specific fraud, in each case they were shown wrong by the press that found why Trump and co though there was a discrepancy. And out of all that, Trump and co had only a handful of names. There is no doubt they'd feed all that to computers to help them scour millions of votes. And, as in every election, election researchers will look through records, will do random polls of voters, and can gather statistical evidence for lack of fraud. Now, instead of pushing all the "we don't know!" narratives, spend your effort educating people that we do know, and this is the process by which we can, and do, check the details. - nomad1 6y agoArguing over particulars, OK well I suppose it was an important election. There is a lot of emotion running here so I watched the hearings on youtube to get my eyeballs on it without reading through a newspaper. > 60+ courts heard the "evidence" They didn't see the evidence. Seriously look at it. There are a lot of articles saying various things about it being thrown out, but it didn't get to court proper in any of the cases. > the actual court cases were not about what Trump and co were claiming in the news. Agree. They aren't going to try and claim fraud because that would take forever, they wouldn't have a chance to get the outcome they wanted that way. That they keep screaming fraud can be seen as a separate allegation that isn't being put to courts(because it would take too long) > You must be confused; What a nice way to talk to someone. This doesn't help with civil discourse, please don't let your emotions get the better of you, democracy could be at stake. > Reuters ran this poll ... Reuters ran many polls, here's one where 45% thought the election was not legitimate and accurate. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-poll/half-of-republicans-say-biden-won-because-of-a-rigged-election-reuters-ipsos-poll-idUSKBN27Y1AJ https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-poll/half-of... > They have been, they will be inspected even more, and they will find the same results. They were not. GA did not check the signatures, the video was not investigated, the eyewitness testimony of a trucker with a trailer full of ballots going missing was not investigated, and the observers to the recounts were kept too far away from seeing anything in every case in the swing states, what alone is suspicious, but few people are actually watching the eyewitness testimony because the press isn't reporting it. > Now, instead of pushing all the "we don't know!" narratives, spend your effort educating people that we do know, and this is the process by which we can, and do, check the details. I have checked the details, please check my claims yourself, there were hearings in all the swing states and hours of eyewitness testimony. The risk is high and it is a shame that it has to be Trump that this might be happening to, because it would be the perfect crime, because everyone is biased against him. I can see where the Trump plebs might end up, if you think that your elections are rigged then you don't have taxation without representation, with no legal recourse this would be ground for revolution. Remember one persons terrorist is another persons freedom fighter. This is dangerous, and for any healing to happen I think that all Trumps evidence needs to be brought forward and investigated.

- confidantlake 6y agoGreat, hacker news has become another outlet to spread conspiracy theories. >With no court hearing the evidence... Like we can report it, flag it, but it feels like every other thread there is just mountains of trivial lies. I left FB long ago, feel close to leaving here too.
