- earthboundkid 6y agoWell one, no Ottomans, no fall of Byzantium, no Renaissance. :-) But more seriously, the Eastern Empire was in communication with their Muslim neighbors. For example, the iconoclastic controversy and the final resolution in favor of icons only makes sense in a context where your neighbors are much harder core than you are about idolatry and it’s embarrassing to the intelligentsia.
