  There is remarkably good evidence that some sort of hominin was in North America 300kya, and butchered a mastodon. No evidence which, and no evidence they left descendants to be encountered by later entrants. The Americas amount to a fascinating laboratory testing successive waves of migration, if only we can learn to read the notes.
