Gab swapped one set of vendors for another. Now they are at the mercy of Cloudflare, ProtonMail, Wordpress, their new underlying server vendor and any security vulnerabilities that pop up in their haphazardly maintained forks of the libre software that powers their website.

No one can stop anyone else from using it, provided they have some sort of hosting. You may be thinking of WordPress.com, run by Automattic? Disclosure: I work there. :)
