Trying to explain that code is more than "well, it works!" is especially hard. Maybe its just the part of programming that's more an art than a science?
- beaconstudios 6y agoprogramming is a systems science - it is qualitative and constraint-based, not metric-based. It's an optimisation problem where you have to optimise for multiple concerns - maintainability, extensibility, scope, testability, and so on. Overengineering in a way that doesn't help any of these is falling at the first hurdle.
