US Air Force Aircraft Accident Investigation Board Report – F-35A, T/N 12-005053 [pdf]
- hindsightbias 6y agoQuite the flight control system that $175M aircraft has: “The MP’s control inputs were quickly out of synch with commands from the Flight Control System (FCS) and, combined with nose gear bounce, resulted in the FCS becoming over-saturated. Over-saturation in this context means the FCS was effectively overwhelmed because a multitude of conflicting inputs were competing for limited processing power. Over-saturation can result in latent or ignored flight control inputs. This over-saturation cued FCS logic to direct the horizontal stabilizers to default to, and remain in, a trailing edge down position and caused the nose of the aircraft to go down”
