But that's the point. A walled garden, a locked ecosystem.
You're either in or you're out. And if your friends are all in and you aren't, you'll never get to hear from them again. How's that for social pressure to buy an iPhone?
I'm not saying what Apple's done isn't a good thing. But I am saying that maybe they didn't do it for good reasons.
- mainstreemm 6y agoI've always owned an Android and I've heard about the, what is it, blue bubble prejudice, or something? I'd just like to say that if anyone has ever avoided putting me in a group chat or becoming my friend because I had an Android instead of an iPhone: GOOD. What a moron that person must be. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I have plenty of people in my life who don't have such stupid or petty requirements, and many of them have iPhones. If that's serving as a filter for me in the kinds of friends I get, that's a filter I think I actually appreciate.
- dagmx 6y agoWhy won't your hear from them again? Messages aggregates sms and iMessage. They'll fall back to sms without having to do anything. At most, you just need to deactivate your iMessage when switching to Android. To the users there's no workflow difference
- BoorishBears 6y agoWhile I've never done this myself, there are people who avoid adding non-Apple users to group messages Mainly because the entire chat ends up being downgraded from iMessage to plain SMS, even if only a single non-Apple device joins
- xienze 6y ago> Mainly because the entire chat ends up being downgraded from iMessage to plain SMS, even if only a single non-Apple device joins Yep. Want to share a video in your group chat that includes a non-Apple user? Everybody gets an MMS that has a postage stamped-size, low framerate video.
- altdatathrow 6y agoHey, do you think they're still just goofing off? Or maybe it was treason and they're all going away for a very long fucking time.
- xienze 6y agoDude get a grip. You and a lot of other people didn't agree with my comment. I am once again going to report your behavior to the mods. Hope the ban is worth it. Seriously, the Orange Man with whom you are so thoroughly obsessed (I guess I'm #2 at the moment) will be gone in 11 days. Hopefully you can begin to regain your grip on reality.
- altdatathrow 6y ago> I am once again going to report your behavior to the mods. Hope the ban is worth it. Unlike you, who are trying to negotiate a karma refund [1], I don't care about social media accounts nor points. What I do care about is treasonous pieces of shit like you whose continued rhetoric and kid gloves approach on places like HN allow your ilk to continue to fester, which builds up to what happened on Wednesday. Your kind needs to be called out repeatedly in every circle you exist within. [1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25679787 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25679787

This is your brain on leftism. Serious question, what were your feelings on the attempted storming of the White house last summer wherein the secret service rushed Trump to a bunker because they felt there was credible risk? Were you aghast at the treasonous behavior of those protestors or were you making "bunker bitch" jokes? I wonder.

- pkulak 6y agoI'm on an SMS thread with some iOS users. It's just a constant barrage of "someone laughed at an image", "someone liked [200 words of text]". And the best part is that Apple has flipped out and somehow assigned half the iOS participants to SMS instead of iMessage (I think because I do own several Macs/iPads and have an iMessage account, just not on my phone), so they're in the same hell that I am... and it's all my fault. Trust me, they're not eager to include me in the next conversation.
