- ColinWright 6y agoReally? Nothing you hate more? Interesting. Personally, I hate it when people put things in a column, deciding that they know best how I should use up my screen real-estate. I like to have control, and I use it without effort. With this design, I can choose. I like that, and I hate it when someone forces their choices on me. I admit, though, that there are things I hate more than that. Out of interest, how would you design a page that caters for both tastes? How would you decide on the number of words that should be in a line? How would you reply to someone who prefers a different answer, but then has no way of changing it?
- psychometry 6y agoAre you familiar with the concept of an idiom?

The great thing about design is that Designers can often do research to make the best decision for everyone. This Wikipedia article is a good starting point if you want to read into how line lengths are chosen. [1] You might wonder why Wikipedia itself is then using a unlimited line width. And the answer is: they're changing it [2] [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_length https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_length [2]: https://diff.wikimedia.org/2020/09/23/wikipedia-is-getting-a-new-look-for-the-first-time-in-10-years-heres-why/ https://diff.wikimedia.org/2020/09/23/wikipedia-is-getting-a...
