I haven't looked into this article, but over Christmas we went to visit my Grandma at her nursing home, which meant we were separated by a window and had to talk over the phone. The latency (which I never really notice when I'm not also looking at the person talking) made it significantly harder to have a fluid conversation than it should have been. Made me wonder if something more old fashioned like a walkie-talkie might have been better.
