If you're 5x size you were last year, an entire system rewrite is relatively cheap, and if you expect to grow in the future, you can make riskier bets knowing they'll be cheaper to replace down the line. It's not ipso facto irrational. I'd be interested in seeing a breakdown of the correlations.
