Living in Portland, I had this same thought. Random one way streets in downtown Portland get a much more violent, immediate, and overwhelming police response on a nightly basis than the Capitol building did when there was an obvious riot forming. If it had been a BLM rally, the tear-gas would have started before any protester had made it up the steps, the same way it still happens in Portland. What a fucked up country I live in.
