Etckeeper – let /etc. be stored in a Git, mercurial, bazaar or darcs repository
- DarthGhandi 6y agoThis looks really neat. Backing up all of a users configs is a lot more painful though given all the dotfiles in $HOME
- theamk 6y agoOne big advantage of this is how easy is it to use. Once you install a fresh Ubuntu system, just install the package: sudo apt install git etckeeper and you are done! postinst script will create /etc/.git, set up sane exclusions, add existing files, commit. In most cases, no action is needed -- the changes are commited before and after package install, as well every night. This is like the ideal backup system -- trivial install, no user interaction, and uses standard tools to view backups.
