- boringg 6y agoI am curious if federal prison is worth the photo op?
- paganel 6y agoThey're probably going to give an amnesty for today's events, what are they going to do? Throw thousands of people in jail and make them political martyrs?
- jedimastert 6y agoIf not, Trump will for sure
- boringg 6y agoBy the time charges are laid he's out.
- tomjen3 6y agoDoesn't matter. He can pardon them before any charges are laid out, or after and he can give a blanket pardon for crimes related to whatever and to anybody involved, because the pardons don't have to be to a named person.
- boringg 6y agoI thought this hasn't been determined to viable yet as as strategy.
- favorited 6y agoIt's happened before. For example, President Carter pardoned all Vietnam War draft dodgers.
- dragonwriter 6y ago“It’s happened before” doesn’t actually mean that it is legally effective, unless it has also been challenged and prevailed in court.
- tartoran 6y agoHe doesn't even know who they are, he can pardon them only nominally not as a category.
- vkou 6y agoThat might work, but would you like to put your life on the line for the capital crime of treason and insurrection, with the hope that a non-specific pardon will shield you from the rule of law?
- tomjen3 6y agoI would not, but there are people who are not the same as me.
- commandlinefan 6y agoEspecially difficult after having spent a year praising (often violent) protests.
- boringg 6y agoI think they will go after key figures - that would be my take and rightfully so.
- djakaitis 6y agoExecute for treason?
- runako 6y agoYes? The opposite sends the message that you run a low probability of sanction if you attack the US Capitol. Very bad incentive.
- boringg 6y agoExactly. Are you an economist per chance? Incentive logic runs rampant in economics.
- rightbyte 6y agoHow about locking the doors? I didn't see any battering rams. This thing was a major police messup. There should have been plenty riot police available that can force people to not enter. Obviously the risk of protesters trying to go in was high when Trump had a rally outside.
- ghostr 6y agohttps://youtu.be/CEEEMB0c5So https://youtu.be/CEEEMB0c5So Not just a matter of doors sadly...
- rightbyte 6y agoOh ... ok maybe harder to seal off than I thought.
- runako 6y agoRegardless of how they got in, all of these folks should be in jail awaiting charges for felony murder, along with a raft of other things.
- rightbyte 6y agoFelony murder would imply that the death of the women was murder, right? A guess both tresspassing or rioting is more proper charges. IANAL.

- andylynch 6y agoUnfortunately this is also going to be another superspreader event. Odds are this will lead to fatalities even without this violence.
- vlunkr 6y agoI think you have to be in a really bad place mentally do what they are doing. They're either incapable of seeing the consequences, or they're happy to be martyrs for what they think is a just cause.
- tim333 6y agoI wonder if there will be consequences for Trump?
- deleted 6y ago[deleted]
- boringg 6y ago25th amendment is in discussion by his cabinet. Consequences are coming down hard.
- AlexandrB 6y agoAfter the last 4 years the idea that there will be consequences for anything Trump does is laughable. He'll take up painting veterans or some other hobby and rehabilitate his image soon enough.
- ecf 6y agoOr they think they will be pardoned because why not? Trump already pardoned literal war criminals.
- dillondoyle 6y agoWill they use cell phone data to charge these thousands of terrorists like they did on the peaceful outdoor BLM protestors? Just a bit of snark I don't believe that's legal or even if so with current laws it should be. But I do not think we will see Federal charges at equivalent levels /per capita as BLM protests.
- mFixman 6y agoWon't Trump just pardon everyone?
