US democracy seems to be on rather thin ice. This attempt at violent revolution will fail, of course. If the next guy is slightly smarter, all bets are off...
And yet, if one were to try to name the top three problems of US society based solely on what was discussed on HN over the last four years, it'd be "cancel culture", social media companies' half-hearted attempts to rid themselves of these people, and the New York Times being terribly biased against this mobs' grievances of... something, I guess.

- insert_coin 6y agoThose are not the problems those are (some of) the symptoms.
- paganel 6y agoMore people have voted for Trump the second time round compared to the first time, this can't be blamed solely on QAnon or any other such thing (as some of the commenters are doing above). This is a more divisive issue that cuts through the US society, if anything I haven't read too much about "the other side" (we all know on which side we're in here, at least in terms of privilege/money) on this forum (props though for the user that mentioned Christopher Lasch, I only started reading him recently and I think he was doing an excellent job of writing about this exact issue, even if his books are now 30-40 years old).
