The Utter Failure of Async in Python
- h2odragon 6y ago"Multiprocessing"... 20 years ago, I was bringing big SPARC systems to their knees with python, using fork() and shared memory with a bit of C code to give me access to atomic instructions. This was python ~1.5 era. I never could talk to others about that code, it got sold out from under me; but i did get to release the mmap/atomics toolkit under GPL at least. AFAIK no one ever acknowledged using it.
- dancrystalbeach 6y agoIt's seems like there is an ongoing battle in Python to adopt... or not... Aysnc. It's complicated to implement, causing slow and low adoption.
- coldtea 6y ago>Maybe I should be more specific, there seems to be a failure to adopt Async in the Python community and major packages at large. Why would they adopt it? It's just another tool Python offers, not the "new way to do all the things".
