To the comments in the posting re: CentOS release cycle. Might I suggest looking at Scientific Linux (SL) http://www.scientificlinux.org/ http://www.scientificlinux.org/. This is also a derivative of RHEL sponsored by Fermilab & CERN for the scientific community.
