...according to a person familiar with the matter...
It amazes me that this passes as journalism. This, along with an anonymous source should be automatically translated to completely made-up until further evidence is presented.
- sudosysgen 6y agoThe original source that said he was disappeared is even thinner on evidence. What can be asserted with little evidence can be dismissed with little evidence. In any case, there's no alternative to anonymous sources, and no one actually seems to have an issue with them until it contradicts their personal narrative, from what I've seen be upvoted and downvoted on this website.
- mobilio 6y agoDisappearing isn't thinner. Just open it's social profiles and will see it.
- sudosysgen 6y agoEvidence is not anymore consistent with disappearance than laying low, and it seems he has been present at some corporate events. It's not uncommon for East Asian CEOs to completely stop public appearance when they are in this amount of trouble at all.
- IXxXI 6y agoJack Ma failed to show up for his own reality show. He disappeared.
- redis_mlc 6y agoFirst of all, not everything is all about you. Why don't you fly to China, announce that you're a journalist, and start asking questions around town. Please report back. More constructively, you can back-check the media outlet later to see if their sources were accurate or not, most of the time. This is about as good as you'll get. No doubt if there was a named source, you'd just respond, "Only one source?" But of course that named source would be disappeared, right? FYI: his picture and bio have been removed from his web site, and dozens of Alibaba-related companies are under investigation. The Ant meeting include Ma and government representatives from 4 different authorities - IOW, it was a coordinated take-down.
