When you're doing real service it's usually largely thankless, anonymous for a good long while, and you work really hard and maybe move things 1 millimeter towards the goal. If you're traveling around doing photo-op's, then except in rare cases (like, you're a celebrity bringing attention to an under-recognized problem), you're not doing the right work.
