Do the cons of open sourcing device drivers really outweigh the pros? Good / popular hardware will end up benefitting from all kinds of contributions from interested folks. Plus the recruitment pool and onboarding of new talent expands by a reasonable amount, in theory. Is it really the case that somewhere in the drivers there is some secret sauce that is so ingenious that if the competition got wind of it, it would give them free access to a lot of hard work and research, and enable them to catch up? I guess I've never really dealt with super secret proprietary magic beans before so I can't relate.
