I worked as a programmer, software development manager, and then was a traveling DevOps/Software Process consultant in the late 2000s. I started my own business in 2011 (wrote code for my own business needs but it was not a software company). Did that for 8.5 years, closed the business as family responsibilities changed, and have been working as a development manager/director managing an IT company's software portfolio since. Went as far as I could with the most recent opportunity and just left on great terms (wife and I had another kid as well - time for a short break). I've got leadership experience, executive experience, and the scars and skills that only come from being responsible for making payroll year after year.
