Pretty spot on. I do wish there was some suggestions from the author.
There are some cool gyms that are pretty well known in bodybuilding that stand out from the LA Fitness types such as Muscle Beach in Venice. Absolutely iconic gym, along with Gold's Venice. Das Gym in Austria is a body builders dream, along with the O2 gyms in Kuwait.
- jfengel 6y agoThe complaints seem pretty vacuous to me. Yeah, gyms are one facet of our out-of-whack body culture, but that's an enormously bigger problem than complaining about the windows. I don't get what he's got against the windows. They make the place feel less claustrophobic, and serve as an aspirational advertisement for the place. (I dunno what the 7-11s are like where he is, but a Google image search[1] turns up all glass fronts, albeit some covered in posters.) Gyms can certainly be improved aesthetically, though there are lots of different ways. Some people will want the industrial aesthetic to match the feel of the hard work and literal iron pumping. Others might want a softer look, and indeed gyms targeted to women do have brighter color schemes[2]. Personally, my favorite was the gym where I did physical therapy, which used air compressors rather than weights, so it was very quiet. That suits me, though I'm sure some like the clang of weights.
