Slack Running Slow / Hanging?
Don't see much online but it's getting unusable for me
- half0wl 6y agoHappening for me too. It's showing a blank screen when I navigate to a channel/DM.

- peter_l_downs 6y agoYes, noticed slow message sending and then now slack will not open on desktop. On web it shows "Server Error It seems like there’s a problem connecting to our servers, and we’re investigating the issue. - kull 6y agoSlow for some actions. Example: It changed my status with like 10 sec delay

- danielsamuels 6y agoThey probably scaled down their infrastructure over the holidays, but now that everyone is back at work they're underprovisioned.
- ApolloFortyNine 6y agoWas my first though too, really looks like they scale down based on the average of the last 2 weeks, but obviously this last 2 weeks would have been extremely low.

- derwiki 6y agoHmm so 2021 is the year they switch to k8s for fast scale up and multiple engineers get a promo out of it?
- dangoldin 6y agoYou'd think at their size of their team they'd understand that they would need to scale back up in anticipation of the post holiday return to work. Slack has the most outages of any major company.
- escardin 6y agoMy thought was everyones local cache was expired and it's re-syncing everyone. Supposedly they run vitess for mysql sharding, and that could mean they're getting slammed by a lot of scatter or cross shard queries they can normally handle.

- edoceo 6y agoFor folks who have this outage. How much does this downtime coat you? Or your team? Or, since Slack is down can focus w/o interruption?
- oxfordmale 6y agoI have to rely on Teams now, the horror. God forbid I have to start using the telephone next! On a more serious note, downtime is not that bad, it probably allows me to focus without interruption for a bit, but will quickly create problems. Being the first day of the year, there is a lot of quarterly planning going on and many colleagues are reaching out for this. There is also the flurry of typical support queries after a break of nearly two weeks, at least for most.
- 7ewis 6y agoAppears to be global, people at my company in North America and Europe have said it's inaccessible. Starting to become a regular occurrence!

- oxfordmale 6y agoI am in the UK, and Slack is very slow indeed. I can see message notifications popping up, but I struggle to read them as Slack is hanging. No official outage reported as of yet.
- aidos 6y agoAs ever, a fine demonstration of the disconnect between uptime and status pages. For any fairly large service HN and twitter are a far more reliable source. Which begs the question, how are these things checked?
- tobyhinloopen 6y agoThe status page of our app has failed due to so many reasons, eventually I just let the status page perform a few tasks a user would do, and undo them after that. Not visiting a special status url, but basically running an e2e test suite on production. It runs every 5 minutes.
- eunos 6y agoSame as me, yet the status page still saying OK. HackerNews is starting to become the real status page. It even spans multiple services! I remember I learned about Google and YouTube down also from HN.

- justinlink 6y agonow they've upgraded from incident to outage and impact for all services. We're continuing to investigate connection issues for customers, and have upgraded the incident on our side to reflect an outage in service. All hands are on deck on our end to further investigate. We'll be back in a half hour to keep you posted.

- mindv0rtex 6y agoDoes anyone have a fallback solution for such situations? WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Zulip, something else?

- robpco 6y agoThis was an interesting failure; in that I was able to see functionality decreasing as I used it - 45m ago - 5s delay when clicking on a thread - 15m ago - stopped being able to open threads, but could still browse topics in channels - 10m ago - channel view stopped rendering icons & user photos - 5m ago - unable to view topics in a channel

- edrobap 6y agoDoes Slack desktop support searching messages offline? It is certainly possible in the email world.
