I think we are in dire need of some sort of change regarding the internet landscape, although to be totally frank I’m not sure what it could be.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we could cherish free speech, while ensuring competition stifling monopolies are not the norm?
- core-questions 6y agoIt's well past time for an Internet Bill of Rights that re-implements the vision of freedoms given to us by the Founding Fathers and later architects of the Constitution, and applies it in a way that is contextually aware of the current lay of the land. Anyone who has actually spent time online understands that private companies control all of the spaces that are akin to the "public square". Sure, you can start your own site, but by doing so you're effectively shutting yourself out from where the vast majority of people are spending their time. We cannot cede control of all dialogue to a bunch of American corporations who care far more about their own bottom line than they do about freedom or personal rights.
