Geoengineering is arguably the most efficient (on average) way of containing and reverting climate change. It is also a potentially devastating weapon. Just like gain-of-function research in human pathogens which may have given us SARS-CoV-2. Rest assured China will experiment ruthlessly with weather and climate modification for its own political ends. With this in mind, we have nothing to lose by doing our own R&D and moving geoengineering closer to higher TRLs.
