Hydro will be the backup power. With enough solar and wind generation there's no need for hydro to be on all the time. Hydroelectric dams are the biggest energy storage facilities we have.
- andromeduck 6y agoHydro can't scale up to the extent of gas without causing massive floods and other havoc downstream. Batteries can probably help a lot for peak shaving but I think in the medium term is mostly going to displace SSGTs more than anything else.
