Sorry if this is a naive question, but how comparable would bupstash be to Duplicity [0] (commonly used via its wrapper, Deja Dup [1])? Duplicity uses librsync and GnuPG; it also uses rdiff/rdiffdir to produce tarred incremental snapshots, if I recall correctly.
