Evidence supports SARS-CoV-2 was in Italy as early as Nov 2019
- jleyank 6y agoCame back to N America from London in late November 2019. Spent the holiday in London, Salisbury and Cambridge while the latter in particular had a large number of visitors due to Fall graduation. London always has a large number of visitors. Thought we picked up a cold, which turned out into a 3+ week dry cough and shortness of breath for me and real shortness of breath for the wife. She's still showing signs of lung inflammation. Anecdotally, various coworkers said they were particularly sick with flu-like symptoms that hung on in Nov/Dec 2019. Whatever it was, pretty much all the medical folks we've seen indicate it was viral pneumonia. Way too long ago, unfortunately, for antibody testing and there's no saved blood tests.
- glouwbug 6y agoYup, I had the worst flu of my life in late November of 2019. Lasted 2 weeks, and the cough that came with it lingered for 2 months. I remember everyone at work saying "something awful" was going around.
- nikolay 6y agoIrvine, Orange County, California - both my wife and son had in January 2020 a pretty bad "flu" - low-grade fever, coughs, shortness of breath. Is it possible that we had some other mutation in the early days, which wasn't as bad the as dominant ones today?
- dragonwriter 6y agoThe most likely explanation for a pretty bad “flu” near the usual peak of flu season is that you don't need quotes around “flu”.
- nikolay 6y agoWell, how do I know it was the flu though? That's why I applied the quotes.
- eschulz2 6y agoApparently up to 40% of Covid cases are asymptomatic, so maybe you had the same strain that is common today. I also had such symptoms in January of 2020 (started a year ago tomorrow).
- nikolay 6y agoA mild case is not an asymptomatic one. We know a lot of friends who said they had the worst flu in their life, but some of them months later got diagnosed with COVID-19, so, I'm not sure what really was going on back then.
- Nextgrid 6y agoI’ve also had a very bad flu (much worse than usual when it came to fever, though no Covid-specific symptoms like loss of taste/smell) in London around new year’s eve 2020.
- SlipperySlope 6y agoDirect flights from Italy to Wuhan and many Chinese work in Italy. What is the origin of the virus? China cannot say because of logical fear that the world will blame them for all the death.
