I share the same concerns regarding Google, I also think it's loosing quality day by day, we need better solutions and maybe advances in ML et al could help us there, maybe we also need a better way to crawl inside apps, social networks etc where most of content live nowadays and gets lost forever after its short-lived fame, even by Google (see my other HN post just now, it also comes from this thinking https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25614898 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25614898) I think your HN search idea is a good one, not really to counter Google, because I'd think it's very biased towards geeks interests, but a worth proof of concept for sure which might find an audience for it
