  It's Reid Hoffman's idea, not mine—a referral from a trusted source is a better indicator than an interview. He's previously said that if he could only decide based on one or the other, he'd hire the candidate referred by a trusted source and skip the interview. In practice, this choice never comes up, but you can weight referrals much more strongly than interviews.
