The Imperial report on the new UK B117 strain is out
- jackweirdy 6y agoThis comment is something I have wondered: > It's clear that the variant is more dominant (1.2x) in children aged 0-9 yrs and 0-19 yrs. There could be many reasons for this - including transmission dynamics - due to high levels of unmitigated transmission in schools during lockdown - which has favoured the variant. In keeping schools open, I wonder if we have inadvertently nudged natural selection to reward a strain that spreads more effectively in children
- mchusma 6y agoThe rational response worldwide to this new varient is (1) to review all vaccine candidates and approve all that have a net expected efficacy and (2) target vaccinating >1% of the population per day, immediately. Israel is the only country really doing this right now. If this means training millions globally to give vaccines, do it. I would sign up to help. We have many vaccines that work, let's put them all into action now.
