How the Comics Industry Avoided a 2020 Implosion

Is it actually the case that we can call the comic industry Marvel and DC in 2020? I know a number of people in the web comics and independent publisher world, and it seems more and more the case that readership has changed quite a lot... DC/Marvel isn't where kids are discovering comics anymore.

published comic creator here. I would not recommend using the linked article as an accurate measurement of the "western" comics industry at all. If anything, Diamond is only about 4% of the total distro industry, which means you're getting an extremely skewed view of the statistics. If DC and Marvel are doing so well, why is DC continuing with massive layoffs? [1] >>>2020 was also a year in which crowdfunding became even more important in the comics space. How do you discuss crowdfunding without mentioning industry veterans such as Ethan Van Sciver pulling in $1M+ on Indiegogo? [2] Does anyone know how to parse the comics sales data here? Sadly I haven't seen many news about the Disney comics. IDW doesn't seem to release any news ones? Not that the confusing IDW website is helping. Normally, guess I have to stay with the European comics, at least they still release monthly
