Elasticsearch new features: 2020 year in review
- latch 6y agoGonna hijack this and share my wish for Elastic in 2021: A Kibana that requires less than 1GB of disk space and doesn't require loading ~50MB of javascript and css.
- sofixa 6y agoHow do you propose to do advanced dynamic and realtime graphing without a lot of JS?
- latch 6y agoThat's A LOT of JS. At a quick glance, datadog appears to do a decent job with a lot less. Grafana does it in about ~20x less. Also, doesn't explain why a fresh install of Kibana is 5.5x larger than a fresh install of Postgres.
- vladvasiliu 6y agoWhile I understand that Kibana does a lot in the browser, as a sibling commenter said, I think there's much room for improvement, performance-wise. I use fairly basic stuff in Kibana. I practically only use the discover panel with a reduced number of lines. It's by far the slowest webapp on my computer. Granted, it's a 2013 MBP (with 16 GB though), but pretty much nothing else is so painfully slow. It's barely faster on a more recent computer (i5-8500 with 32 GB).
- sciurus 6y agoThe feature I see missing here today I'm most excited about is searchable snapshots. > While we've had support for backing up data to low-cost object stores for a long time, with searchable snapshots you can now use them as an active part of storing and searching your data. https://www.elastic.co/blog/introducing-elasticsearch-searchable-snapshots https://www.elastic.co/blog/introducing-elasticsearch-search...
- synhershko 6y agoThe reason why we didn't include it is because it's not free; it actually requires the high-end licensing (ECE). We do have an alternative solution coming up soon as a replacement.
