that's very sad. Just yesterday I helped a family member install firefox for their android device, and installed an adblocker, to replace their news apps with "Add to home screen" PWAs (they were sick of the billions of ads in the apps).
Now it sounds like they're not killing the mobile PWA yet, but it's a big selling point of firefox as far as I'm concerned.
I was also just starting to switch to firefox on desktop (just installed my main plugins yesterday) for my main browser, but this is really making me reconsider.
- Boltgolt 6y agoThey support basically all PWA functionalities except installing the app to desktop. Is that really such a dealbreaker?
- pimterry 6y agoPersonally, yes, I enormously want this, and as a Firefox user I have various PWA apps that I have to run standalone via Chrome, purely because Firefox can't do it. Being able to have a desktop window and traditional shortcuts per 'application' is 80% of why electron exists and is so big in the first place. Chromium powers that whole market. Moving all of that to PWAs that could share a runtime and use Firefox internally would be a huge step in a good direction.
