Windows 7: A year after end-of-support deadline, millions choose not to upgrade
- ralphc 6y agoMy wife has a Dymo label printer that stopped working on Windows 10 after a Windows update. We got it figured out eventually but I was the hero by pulling out a Windows 7 computer and downloading the previous version driver and got those labels printed. Slightly older peripherals is a good reason to keep Windows 7 around if you can spare a computer.
- miles 6y ago> if you can spare a computer Or even just keep a Windows 7 VM handy. Cannot tell you how many times XP, 7, and 10 VMs running on a macOS host have saved the day for me.
- brnt 6y agoUsing Linux has restored at least 5 webcams and a scanner for me. Drivers stay around forever in the kernel.
- Nextgrid 6y agoIs it that surprising that people prefer a stable OS designed for work as opposed to one designed for ad delivery?
- netsharc 6y agoStill on Windows 7 at home, Windows 10 at work, there's a keyboard layout bug that I've sadly tolerated far too long in Windows 10 (maybe the last 3 years?), Windows 10 keeps resetting the layouts and even lies to me telling me I'm using the EN-US layout although the symbol keys say otherwise. The work laptops have Swiss German, French and Italian on them, for my user profile I use EN-US and German (Germany). But every once in a while (actually very often) Windows would decide, "Oh you're using the French layout now". Or the Swiss German one. Even though these layouts are not listed as configured when I open the layouts control panel. Great job, Microsoft!
- type0 6y ago> Great job, Microsoft! Ah no joke, looks like they know you better than yourself
- cJ0th 6y agoWindows 10 is basically what's wrong with business software these days. Gone are the days were we at least tried to make these types of applications predictable and consistent. I have to work with D365 applications a lot and it is flabbergasting how companies accept this level unreliability.
