New terrorism guide shows FBI still classifying Black 'extremists' as threat
- mamon 6y agoWe've just had riots across the whole US started by a terrorist group called "Black Lives Matter", so I think FBI guide is spot on.
- boublepop 6y agoBlack people protesting for equality wasn’t terrorism in the 60s and it isn’t today. The fact that FBI might treat it as such is a symptom of the exact same racism they are fighting against. Literal nazis aren’t treated as hostile as these movements.
- mamon 6y ago>> Black people protesting for equality wasn’t terrorism in the 60s and it isn’t today. That's what all terrorists say. They are never bad guys, they always have some good reason to fight: freedom of their country, justice for their people, etc. It's the chosen method of fighting that matters. In democratic society you can protest peacefully, which means not attacking the police, not looting the stores, not setting cars on fire. If you can't refrain from this, then you are terrorist and I don't give a fuck about the cause you're fighting for, it's not an excuse.
- Qw3r7 6y agoThere is a radical difference between the March on Washington and numerous BLM protests that have resulted in crime. The creation of BLM protests has detracted any form of conversation we could have had between policing ethics and renewal of the system. As it soley focuses on a single racial profile and has created such an air of protests that lead to anything from property destruction to death. Which produces such an odd fixation against anyone else, and even at times of those of African decent. There are large issues to be discussed with regards to BLM and its role. Ultimately however, there do exist "extremes" of all flavours. And those extremes can easily be against any form of race by any form of race. My two cents are that there is a larger issue in societal class structure, and it is incredibly easy to sweep that aside and play it off as a racial issue.
- casefields 6y agoWhen anti-lockdown protestors were vilified as granny killers and murderers, only for the media to flip flop weeks later, it’s hard not to apply the same contempt.
- pstuart 6y agoSorry, but your narrative is incorrect. These protests were targeted by outside agitators determined to delegitimize these protests, and as a bonus, fuck shit up: https://www.startribune.com/police-umbrella-man-was-a-white-supremacist-trying-to-incite-floyd-rioting/571932272/ https://www.startribune.com/police-umbrella-man-was-a-white-... You now label that group as a "terrorist group" and conveniently ignore that there might be some significance to their grievances, because terrorist. Do you really think that Black people that protest against police misconduct are terrorists? Like every single one of them? That the police are above reproach and that those uppity folk are just making up stories?
- pstuart 6y agoIt's so disappointing that the HN community has its fair share of racists.

- batmaniam 6y agoGovernment have always made a show of power when it comes to groups that stand up to the status quo. While this article (or the government for that matter) hasn't told us what groups are 'extremist', or what that even means, let's not forget that Martin Luther King Jr. and his entourage was also the target government force: https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/federal-bureau-investigation-fbi https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/federal-bure... > Hoover continued to approve investigations of King and covert operations to discredit King’s standing among financial supporters, church leaders, government officials, and the media. > Hoover told Attorney General Robert Kennedy that Stanley Levison, one of King’s closest advisors, was “a secret member of the Communist Party” (Hoover, 14 February 1962). In the following months, Hoover deployed agents to find subversive material on King, and Robert Kennedy authorized wiretaps on King’s home and Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) offices in October 1963. Name any group that's effectively stood up to the status quo, and I guarantee it has a bloody or violent history behind it. This extends to labor unions as well, our history is full of this stuff, sadly.
- sonotathrowaway 6y agoKing was more protected because he had such a prominent national stature. Hoover was able to execute other promising activists like Fred Hampton outright.
- casefields 6y agoWhy are we pretending there isn’t a strain of black supremacy that’s been attacking Jews? https://forward.com/opinion/436335/the-silence-surrounding-violence-against-us-orthodox-jews-is-deafening/ https://forward.com/opinion/436335/the-silence-surrounding-v... Let’s also not forget what so many prominent black Americans recently promoted: https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/blacks-jews-paul-packer-herschel-walker https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/blacks-jews-paul-packer-hers... Oh and there’s a history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Heights_riot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Heights_riot Who thinks these guys are completely sane? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Hebrew_Israelites https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Hebrew_Israelites The levels of kookiness approaches Scientology. Louis Theroux did a documentary about these guys if you want to see with your own eyes: https://youtu.be/h1qTKgMUbOY https://youtu.be/h1qTKgMUbOY
- pstuart 6y agoI'm sure you have some sort of final solution for this problem, no?
- m1gu3l 6y agoI would remind my fellow HN readers that often with issues of race and violence it is better to listen first before potentially saying something stupid or hurtful.
