Ask HN: Commodity Features for SaaS – What and How?

How did you build "commodity features" for your SaaS? I'm thinking to user flows, payments, analytics, but anything really that you'd consider commodity (and perhaps wish there was a faster way). How long did it take? How easy vs painful was it? Interested in both the eng point of view and also the non-eng one (e.g. how long did you account for vs actually took).
